Abstract

The transformation of strategic management systems over the past twenty-five years marks a fundamental evolution of the Balanced Scorecard (BSC) from a primarily retrospective performance measurement instrument into a holistic and multidimensional strategic management system (SMS) framework. This study aims to map the intellectual dynamics, publication trends, and global collaboration architecture within the BSC literature to comprehend its adaptation trajectory in response to the Industry 5.0 paradigm. Utilizing a descriptive-quantitative design, a bibliometric analysis was conducted on 736 documents retrieved from the Scopus database for the 2000–2025 period, employing Biblioshiny and VOSviewer software. The primary findings indicate a significant shift from a technocentric focus toward the integration of Triple Bottom Line (TBL) principles and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) parameters, which emphasize systemic resilience and human well-being. Network analysis reveals the dominance of the United States and the United Kingdom as theoretical epicenters; however, there is a rapid decentralization of research toward emerging economies such as China, Iran, and India. The originality of this research lies in its 25-year longitudinal compilation, which validates the evolution of the BSC into an organizational nervous system capable of aligning digital efficiency with ecological responsibility. The practical implications affirm that the BSC remains an essential navigational instrument for modern organizations to achieve a balance between economic profitability and social sustainability in the era of artificial intelligence.
