AI Use Declaration

Policy on the Use of Generative AI and AI-Assisted Technologies

Authors must declare the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the manuscript preparation process when submitting articles to the Journal of Economics, Business & Accounting (JEBAV).

JEBAV acknowledges the potential of AI and AI-assisted technologies ("AI Tools") when used responsibly to help researchers work efficiently, gain critical insights, and improve the quality of their research outputs. These technologies, including AI agents and other AI-powered research tools, can assist researchers in synthesizing complex literature, exploring research topics, identifying research gaps, generating ideas, organizing content, and improving language clarity and readability for journal readers.

Authors preparing manuscripts for JEBAV may use AI Tools to support research and writing activities. However, these technologies must not replace critical thinking, human expertise, independent judgment, or scholarly evaluation. The use of AI must always remain under appropriate human supervision and control.

Author Responsibilities

Authors are fully responsible for their use of AI Tools and remain accountable for the accuracy, originality, integrity, and quality of their manuscripts. These responsibilities include:

  1. Accuracy and Verification: Carefully reviewing and verifying the accuracy, completeness, and reliability of all AI-generated content, including references and citations, as AI Tools may produce inaccurate, misleading, or fabricated information.

  2. Originality and Intellectual Contribution: Thoroughly reviewing, editing, and refining AI-assisted content to ensure that the manuscript represents the authors' original intellectual contributions, independent analysis, interpretations, insights, and scholarly arguments.

  3. Transparency and Disclosure: Ensuring transparency regarding the use of AI Tools during manuscript preparation. Authors who use generative AI or AI-assisted technologies must provide a formal disclosure statement when submitting their manuscripts to JEBAV.

  4. Data Privacy and Intellectual Property: Protecting confidential information, research data, intellectual property rights, and other applicable rights by reviewing and complying with the terms, conditions, and privacy policies of the AI Tools used.

AI Authorship Restrictions

AI Tools must not be listed or recognized as authors or co-authors of manuscripts submitted to JEBAV. Authorship requires intellectual responsibility, accountability, and the ability to approve and defend the integrity of published research, responsibilities that can only be fulfilled by human authors.

Disclosure Requirements

Authors who use generative AI or AI-assisted technologies during manuscript preparation must disclose such use by including a statement at the end of their manuscript upon initial submission to JEBAV.

The disclosure statement must appear in a separate section immediately before the reference list and will be included in the published article.

Failure to disclose the use of AI Tools when such use is identified may constitute a violation of JEBAV's publication ethics and research integrity policies. Consequently, the submitted manuscript may be rejected for publication.

Example of an AI Usage Disclosure Statement

Section Title:

Statement on the Use of Generative AI and AI-Assisted Technologies in the Manuscript Preparation Process

Statement:

During the preparation of this manuscript, the author(s) used [NAME OF AI TOOL/SERVICE] for [PURPOSE OF USE]. Following the use of this tool/service, the author(s) carefully reviewed, verified, and edited the generated content as necessary. The author(s) take full responsibility for the accuracy, originality, integrity, and content of the submitted and published article.

Exemptions from Disclosure

The disclosure requirement does not apply to basic tools used solely for routine grammar checking, spelling correction, reference management, or manuscript formatting, such as Grammarly (for basic grammar and spelling assistance) and Mendeley (for reference management).

Authors who have not used generative AI or AI-assisted technologies requiring disclosure are not required to include an AI usage statement.

JEBAV encourages the responsible, ethical, and transparent use of emerging technologies while maintaining the highest standards of academic integrity, research originality, and scholarly publication ethics.
