Authorship Criteria Policy

1. Policy Statement

Journal of Business & Banking (JBB) is committed to ensuring transparency, fairness, accountability, and integrity in the attribution of authorship in scholarly publications.

JBB adopts authorship principles consistent with the recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE).

Authorship must reflect substantial intellectual contributions to the research and manuscript preparation. All listed authors must take responsibility for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of their published work.

2. Authorship Criteria

To qualify as an author of a manuscript submitted to JBB, an individual must meet all four of the following criteria:

  1. Substantial Contribution: Making significant contributions to the conception or design of the research, or the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of research data.

  2. Manuscript Preparation: Drafting the manuscript or critically reviewing it for important intellectual content.

  3. Final Approval: Reviewing and approving the final version of the manuscript before publication.

  4. Accountability: Agreeing to be accountable for all aspects of the work and ensuring that questions concerning its accuracy or integrity are appropriately investigated and resolved.

All four criteria must be fulfilled to qualify for authorship.

Individuals who contribute to the research but do not meet all four criteria should be recognized in the Acknowledgments section rather than listed as authors.

3. Author Contributions and Responsibilities

All authors must make meaningful intellectual contributions to the research and manuscript preparation.

JBB encourages authors to provide a clear statement describing their individual contributions, including conceptualization, methodology, data collection, formal analysis, investigation, writing, critical review, and supervision.

All authors are responsible for ensuring that:

  • The manuscript represents original scholarly work.

  • Research data, methods, and findings are accurately reported.

  • Relevant sources receive proper acknowledgment and citation.

  • All listed authors approve the submitted and final versions of the manuscript.

  • Potential conflicts of interest are appropriately disclosed.

  • The research complies with the journal's editorial and publication ethics policies.

JBB strictly prohibits guest authorship, gift authorship, ghost authorship, and other forms of authorship misrepresentation.

4. Corresponding Author Responsibilities

The corresponding author serves as the primary contact between the authors and the JBB Editorial Office during manuscript submission, peer review, publication, and post-publication communication.

The corresponding author is responsible for coordinating communication with all co-authors, ensuring their approval of the manuscript, providing accurate author information, and responding to editorial inquiries.

The corresponding author must ensure that all authors agree to the manuscript's content, authorship order, and subsequent revisions.

Following publication, the corresponding author is expected to cooperate with the editorial team in addressing questions or concerns regarding the published article.

5. Authorship Order and Changes

The order of authors must be determined through mutual agreement among all contributing authors before manuscript submission.

Requests to add, remove, or rearrange authors after submission must include a clear justification and written consent from all affected authors.

The Editorial Board reserves the right to review such requests and require additional documentation when necessary.

Changes to authorship after publication may require a formal correction notice to maintain the transparency and integrity of the scholarly record.

6. Acknowledgment of Non-Author Contributors

Individuals who provide technical assistance, administrative support, funding acquisition, proofreading, language editing, or other contributions that do not independently satisfy the authorship criteria should be appropriately acknowledged.

The Acknowledgments section should clearly describe the contributions of these individuals.

Authors should obtain permission from acknowledged individuals before including their names in the manuscript.

7. Artificial Intelligence and Authorship

Artificial intelligence (AI) tools, including generative AI systems and large language models, cannot be listed as authors or co-authors of manuscripts submitted to JBB.

Authorship requires intellectual responsibility, accountability, and the ability to approve and defend the integrity of scholarly work, responsibilities that can only be fulfilled by human authors.

Authors who use generative AI or AI-assisted technologies during manuscript preparation must disclose such use in accordance with JBB's AI Use Declaration Policy.

The disclosure statement must appear in a separate section immediately before the reference list, as required by the journal's AI policy.

Basic tools used solely for routine spelling correction, grammar checking, reference management, or manuscript formatting are exempt from specific AI disclosure requirements.

Human authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, reliability, and integrity of all submitted content, including AI-assisted material.

8. Authorship Disputes and Misconduct

JBB takes allegations of authorship misconduct seriously, including unauthorized authorship, omitted contributors, inappropriate authorship attribution, and disputes concerning individual contributions.

The Editorial Board will evaluate reported concerns and may request explanations or supporting documentation from the authors.

When necessary, unresolved authorship disputes may be referred to the relevant academic or research institutions for further investigation, consistent with COPE recommendations.

Depending on the nature and severity of the violation, the journal may take appropriate editorial action, including manuscript rejection, publication of a correction, or retraction.

9. Policy Compliance

By submitting a manuscript to JBB, all authors confirm that they meet the journal's authorship criteria, approve the submitted manuscript, and accept responsibility for their contributions and the integrity of the published research.

JBB reserves the right to request an authorship contribution statement or additional supporting documentation to verify compliance with this policy.

The journal is committed to promoting responsible authorship practices and ensuring that authorship accurately represents the intellectual contributions of all individuals involved in scholarly research.
